St. Stephen’s Church is established.

1842

Originally St. John the Baptist Church, it is located in the former New North Church at 401 Hanover Street. The building assumes its current name in 1862, and is lifted and moved back to allow the widening of Hanover Street in 1870. Rose Kennedy is baptized here in 1890 and her funeral is held here in 1995. The building is restored by Chester Wright in 1965. Suppressed as a parish in 1992, it is currently used by the Missionary Society of St. James.
